A nice complement to His Dark Materials, but not as rewarding to read. It gives a bit of back story of Lee Scoresby, its nice to be back in the universe again but its not really a 'must read'. - Good stocking filler though, especially as this edition is beautiful, fabric covered hardback with wonderful engravings.
